According to the announcement, the police prevention van will soon be back on the road, offering advice on how to protect yourself against crime. And: Earth Overshoot Day today marks the critical point from which we are, in effect, living on credit at the Earth’s expense. Information and prevention: Prevention van to tour around Leipzig soon
One might say that the best crime is the one that never happens in the first place: the Saxony Police’s Prevention Mobile will soon be stopping off at various locations across the Free State once again. The Leipzig Police Headquarters has announced this today.
Between 25 August and 11 September 2026, crime prevention experts will be present in the Leipzig district, in Northern Saxony and also in Leipzig itself, offering advice sessions and practical demonstrations for anyone interested. The focus will be on protection against scams – key terms: fake police officers, surprise tactics, the ‘angel’ scam … – as well as expert advice on burglary protection and theft prevention.
The Leipzig city area is one of the 14 planned stops. Here, the experts will be on hand on 2 September between 10.00 and 16.00 at Otto-Runki-Platz. The service is free of charge and no booking is required. You can find plenty more information here.
Living on credit with the Earth
This year, ‘Earth Overshoot Day’ falls on today, 30 July: according to the organisation Global Footprint Network, on Thursday humanity used up all the resources that our planet can naturally regenerate within a single year. In terms of the use of forests, soil and water, for example, we are now drawing on more resources than are mathematically available. Furthermore, CO₂ emissions now exceed the absorption capacity of the oceans and plants.
From an ecological perspective, this means that, as of today, we are living on credit at the Earth’s expense, although consumption levels vary greatly across the globe. According to calculations, if the whole world lived like Germany, Earth Overshoot Day would have been reached as early as 10 May. This year, the critical point was reached slightly later than in 2025 (when it fell on 24 July), though this is said to be due to updated data rather than a more conscious lifestyle.
