In the Flow of Light: Galerie W182 is opening an exhibition of paintings by Steffi Deparade-Becker on 3 September

From 3 September to 2 October, Galerie W182 is presenting the solo exhibition ‘In the Flow of Light’ by the renowned painter Steffi Deparade-Becker. Art lovers are warmly invited to the private viewing on Thursday 3 September at 7 pm at the gallery premises at Wurzner Straße 182. Dr Teresa Ende will give an introduction to the artist’s work. The musician Roger Tietke will accompany the opening with delicate saxophone melodies. The artist will be in attendance.

In her works, the Dresden-based artist explores architecture and space as a living fabric. Her compositions are characterised by a fascinating tension: precise lines and ordered grids meet the fluid dissolution of areas of colour. “The artist’s spiritual world is transformed into a material one of colour and form,” as the art critique aptly describes it. In Deparade-Becker’s work, architecture is not merely depicted, but translated into a visual poetry in its own right.

The works on display create a profound space of resonance in which construction and snapshot, stillness and movement interpenetrate. Through delicate layering and the subtle interplay of colour and light, visual worlds emerge that challenge familiar ways of seeing.

“Her painting invites us to see familiar forms differently: not as a fixed order, but as an open system,” says gallery owner Martin Zinger of the upcoming exhibition. Thus, in these works, not only the structures but also one’s own perception are drawn into a gentle flow.

Steffi Deparade-Becker

Born in Halle (Saale) in 1954, Steffi Deparade-Becker studied fine art from 1974 to 1980 at the ‘Burg Giebichenstein’ University of the Arts in Halle/Saale from 1974 to 1980, graduating with a diploma before working as a freelance painter. In 1995 she moved to Dresden, where she has lived and worked ever since.

Alongside her extensive exhibition activity both at home and abroad, she was also active in university teaching of the fundamentals of art (including in Dresden and Zittau) until 2010. Her work encompasses painting and printmaking; she is known for her subtle combinations of painting and collage, abstract compositions, and architectural and atmospheric motifs.

The W182 Gallery

Founded in 2021 and run by Brigitte and Martin Zinger, the gallery
exhibits contemporary art with a focus on artists from the Leipzig area. On display are paintings, prints, photographic art, sculptures and installations of the highest calibre. The gallery also organises concerts, readings and discussion sessions.

The opening reception takes place on Thursday, 3 September at 7.00 pm, featuring a talk by Dr. phil. Teresa Ende and musical accompaniment by Roger Tietke (saxophone)

Gallery W182 can be easily reached in around 15 minutes from Leipzig Central Station or Augustusplatz by tram lines 7 (towards Sommerfeld) and 8 (towards Paunsdorf). Get off at the Sellerhausen Emmausstraße stop. From there, the gallery is just a three-minute walk away.
