Anatomy of Depression: Art exhibition in Leipzig-Lindenau on the first weekend in October

From 2 to 4 October, the Leipzig-based artist Susanne Ruccius will be presenting her exhibition ‘Anatomy of a Depression’ at interim linxxnet, 32 Demmeringstraße, Leipzig-Lindenau. Susanne Ruccius has lived and worked in Leipzig since 2004 and, since 2024, also in the Kohrener Land region. She studied at the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design in Halle/Saale. The exhibition features works created both in spite of and because of her depression, thereby offering an insight into its ‘anatomy’.

The exhibition presents drawings and paintings that trace the phases of her depression. It begins with anxiety and aggression arising from intense pressure. These are followed by exhaustion, loss of concentration and emotional numbness, which manifest themselves in minimalism, simplification and a subdued colour palette.

As the process continues, the artist experiments with new approaches – digital drawing, photography, texts, multi-part paintings – in order to remain creatively capable of acting in the face of the effects of depression.

The exhibition coincides with the LindeNOW art space festival.
