He’s still around. And on 25 September, you’ll be able to see him live at the Anker: Vicki Vomit, satirist, comedian, musician, singer-songwriter and parodist. Back in the noughties, you could catch him wherever things were getting lively on stage. Then things went quiet around him. Those who were quick off the mark owned a CD from his own label, Wollmonster Records. Now he’s made his voice heard again. He’s now retired, whatever that might mean for a stage performer. And he’s written two books and published them through his own publishing house – Wollmonster Books. But why haven’t we heard from him for so long?
“Back in the nineties and noughties, I used to cause quite a stir in the clubs as a bit of a scandalous character; my stage name is Vicki Vomit. We put on a rowdy rock show, had loads of fun and made a lot of money. When the CD market collapsed, I hosted the Leipzig Comedy Lounge for many years. Then I retired from the stage and devoted myself to social work,” he says of his ultimately temporary farewell to the stage. Even in tranquil Erfurt, where he lives, someone like him can’t last long.
“I’m now retired and have realised that whilst my pension is enough to cover the dog licence fee, it’s not enough for the rent. Mr Merz is maliciously trying to drive me back onto the stage. That’s why I’m writing books that are selling like mad, even though I publish them through my own small, self-founded publishing house. (Western publishers don’t want old men from the ‘Zone’, but young, beautiful people, preferably from West Germany or even the USA),” says Vicki Vomit
, tackling with his familiar bite the malaise of a present-day world that is driving even someone like him out of his armchair and back onto the stage.
And back to Leipzig once again. You can mark the date in your diary: on Friday 25 September, he’ll be giving a musical reading at the ‘Anker’.
Two books
He hasn’t yet revealed exactly what he’ll be reading aloud. He has now published two books. In 2024, he published *Mein Klampf*, an “honest and candid insight into part of the Thuringian music scene from the seventies and eighties right up to the present day. In places, I laughed until I cried! Here and there, though, it’s not for the faint-hearted,” as fellow musician Ritchie Barton from Silly put it. Singer-songwriter Götz Widmann also found the book inspiring: “Rock ’n’ roll life in the GDR, brilliantly recounted by an utterly untameable free spirit. Authentic, full of truth and, in places, simply hilarious.”
Somehow, it’s also turned into something of an autobiography for Vicki Vomit.
And because the book went down so well with the public, he followed it up in 2026 with *Fotze Fotze Hitler*. You shouldn’t let the title put you off, says singer Dirk Zöllner: “Vicki Vomit delves, with the courage to embrace hopelessness, into places where others, for the sake of optimism, prefer not to look. In a brutal frenzy of madness, sequences that seem to spring from a nightmare but are based on true experiences come thick and fast.
You certainly shouldn’t be put off by the title; this is a challenging read. The unvarnished and sarcastic reflections on the past and present bear witness to great, heartfelt compassion. A stirring manifesto that provokes defiance against a collapsing capitalist society.”
Anyone wishing to see the retired author himself, now back on stage, should make a note of the September date at the Anker.
