The premiere at the Cineplex took place to a full house (as reported by the LZ), and the second screening was also a resounding success: to mark the 50th anniversary of the neighbourhood, Birk Poßecker’s documentary portrays the people and their lives in and around Leipzig’s Grünau new-build estate. Due to the high level of interest, the Grünau travelling cinema is showing the film today and every Monday and Wednesday until 15 July from 2 pm to 6 pm, with free admission.
The free cinema initiative has been organised by the “Lipsia” eG housing co-operative, which hopes to use this opportunity to wish the neighbourhood and its residents a happy birthday. Until 5 September, a specially converted container will be stopping off at various locations, serving as an exhibition and cinema space. Alongside Birk Poßecker’s film, a music video for the Grünau song will be shown, as well as historical film footage spanning 50 years of the neighbourhood’s history, captured by Siegfried Schlegel.

After its time on Grünauer Allee, the container will move on to promote the neighbourhood beyond Grünau: from 20 July to 5 August at 38 Arthur-Hoffmann-Straße. From 12 to 31 August, it will then be back in Grünau, at Berkaer Weg 1. The programme will conclude as part of Lipsia’s 25th Haus & Hof Festival on the festival grounds surrounding the office on Brünner Straße.
Incidentally, anyone attending screenings at the travelling cinema has the chance to win a meet-and-greet with the Leipzig rock band KARUSSELL, who will be performing at this festival on 5 September as part of an open-air concert. Entry tickets are available during the travelling cinema’s film screenings.
