The Bach Festival drew to a close on 21 June on a high note. Nearly 96,000 Bach fans from at least 56 countries celebrated a musical festival of the highest order. But for Bach enthusiasts, the festivities are far from over. On Saturday, 4 July at 3.00 pm, the Bach Organ Festival 2026 begins at St. Thomas’ Church in Leipzig under the artistic direction of St. Thomas’ organist Johannes Lang. This year’s varied concert series will once again feature outstanding artists, who will perform on both organs at St. Thomas’ Church during each concert.

The romantic Sauer organ (1889) and the Bach organ (Woehl, 2000) will feature performances by St. Thomas’s organist Johannes Lang, Leo van Doeselaar, Kristian Krogsøe, Mari Ohki, Tobias Frank, David Cassan and Wolfgang Zerer.

Following the opening concert on Saturday 4 July, an additional event as part of the Bach Organ Festival will take place at 4.30 pm in the Thomashaus, right next to St. Thomas’s Church: ‘Günther Ramin – Contemporary Witnesses Recall’. To mark the 70th anniversary of Ramin’s death, colleagues of the former St. Thomas organist and cantor Günther Ramin will meet with his great-grandson, St. Thomas organist Johannes Lang, and other guests for a moderated discussion followed by a reception (coffee, sparkling wine, snacks).

The organ concerts always take place on Saturdays from 3.00 pm. Here is the full programme of events:
