Attempted robbery in a supermarket: Who can provide information?

One day after a failed attempted robbery at a supermarket, the Leipzig Police Headquarters (PD) is seeking witnesses. According to PD spokesperson Tom Erik Richter, a man, as yet unidentified, entered a supermarket in Leipzig-Großzschocher yesterday evening at around 8.00 pm and demanded cash from an employee, during which the perpetrator brandished a “pistol-like object”.

However, the man did not manage to get hold of the money and subsequently fled the shop. A description of the suspect, further details and contact details for witnesses can be found here. An investigation is underway into a robbery.

Marla Svenja Liebich is now being held in a men’s prison

Far-right extremist Marla Svenja Liebich has been transferred to a men’s prison to serve her sentence following her extradition from the Czech Republic to Germany. Previously, the 55-year-old had been briefly held at the women’s prison in Chemnitz – however, the prison announced today that, “after weighing up all relevant aspects of the individual case, Liebich cannot be permanently accommodated at Chemnitz Prison.” She is therefore now being held at Zeithain Prison. For reasons of privacy, no further details regarding this specific case can be disclosed.

Liebich, who was still known by a male name at the time, had been sentenced in 2023 by the Halle/Saale Local Court to one and a half years’ imprisonment without parole for incitement to hatred, defamation, insult and other offences. Her gender was later changed to female, with critics claiming this was a provocation and an abuse of the Self-Determination Act.

Liebich had evaded starting her prison sentence – which was due to begin in late summer 2025 – by fleeing and was not apprehended until April 2026 in the Czech Republic, near the German border. Following a legal wrangling – Liebich had claimed she feared for her life in a German men’s prison – the far-right extremist was extradited to Germany this week and handed over to the Federal Police. Previously, a court in Plzeň (western Czech Republic) had given the go-ahead, whilst Liebich’s appeal to the Higher Regional Court in Prague had failed.
